Frequently asked questions.

Is insurance accepted for payment?

I only accept BCBS of Texas for psychotherapy services. Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Pleasure Education are not covered by insurance.

What can I expect from psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy has both benefits and risks. Risks may include experiencing uncomfortable feelings, such as sadness, guilt, anxiety, anger, frustration, loneliness and helplessness, because the process of psychotherapy often requires discussing the unpleasant aspects of your life. However, psychotherapy has been shown to have benefits for individuals who undertake it. Therapy often leads to a significant reduction in feelings of distress, increased satisfaction in interpersonal relationships, greater personal awareness and insight, increased skills for managing stress and resolutions to specific problems. Therapy is a process whereby the client gets as much out of the process as he/she puts in. There is no guarantee about what will happen. There is no guarantee the client will receive the results they desire. Psychotherapy requires a very active effort on your part. In order to be most successful, you will have to work on things you and your therapist discuss outside of sessions. During the process the client is responsible for creating the change in their lives that they desire and the counselor is there to facilitate that change.

Anna Fife LPC may utilize an eclectic range of psychotherapy interventions from various theories including and not limited to DBT informed skills training, somatic experiencing, mindfulness, humanistic, somatic sex education and creative arts.

My intent is provide a safe environment for the process of change to occur.  The number of sessions needed is variable and depends on many factors, which we may discuss in session.

What can I expect from Somatic Experiencing sessions?

SE can result in a number of benefits to you, such as relief of traumatic stress symptoms, increased resiliency, and resourcefulness.

SE may offer you many benefits such as an increase in your ability to self-soothe, feel empowered, and feel more resilient.  However, there may also be risks as with any treatment that focuses on healing trauma. Such reactions are not uncommon and can be attended to in the course of our work together.

Although SE is designed to help you resource and work with manageable amounts of discomfort, you may experience challenging feelings, images, or thoughts, sleep disturbances, as well as unfamiliar or uncomfortable body sensations.  Furthermore, as with any stress reduction treatment, there can be no guarantee that you will reach your goals.  That said, many people report that SE has helped them tremendously and has created positive change in their lives.  Learning how to reorganize “body memory” is often vital to learning how to relax and calm your nervous system.

SE sessions are done seated in a chair or couch depending on your preference.  You will be asked to share an impression of the sensations that you feel in your body, such as tightness, heat, shakiness, expansion, relaxations, etc.  I will teach you ways to track, or follow, these sensations with your awareness and come to a place of rebalance.
